Robbery bid in pawn shop foiled due to fool-proof security system

May 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - KRISHNAGIRI:

A well-thought out security plan could hoodwink burglars and undermine a crime. That’s the takeaway from the foiled burglary bid on a pawn brokerage shop off Gurubarapalli national highway, when the burglars struck at the residential-cum-pawn brokerage compound of Manickavasagam on Sunday night.

Manickavasagam had secured his shop with 7 CCTV cameras, two outside the premises and five inside. In addition to an alarm system, a public address system as an SOS was also installed. It was this public address system that had saved the day for Manickavasagam and his family of five, when the burglars struck on Sunday night.

According to the police, Manikavasagam had secured the gate to the compound housing both his pawn shop and his house and was walking back to his house, when four men overpowered him with knives.

At knife-point, the men forced him to open his house. However, he immediately yelled out to his wife inside the house to not open the front door, and instructed her to sound the alarm and call out for help in the public address system.

Caught unawares by the fool-proof security system, the burglars stabbed Manickavasagam and fled the scene. On hearing the distress call, locals arrived on the scene and rushed him to Krishnagiri government hospital.

Speaking to The Hindu , Superintendent of Police Kannammal said the owner had taken into consideration all probabilities and had secured his house and shop.
