Reward announced

The Railway Board on Saturday announced a reward of Rs. 5,000 each to four employees of the Chennai Division under the Southern Railway for averting a major disaster following damage to the track between the Perani and Mundiambakkam stations earlier in the day.

Board chairman Vivek Sahai announced the rewards to the guard of 106 Salem-Chennai Express T. Rajasekaran, for first smelling something foul, station master of Mundiambakkam A. Tukaram for consequently alerting the incoming 6178 Kumbakonam-Chennai Egmore Rockfort Express driver B. Gopinath Rao, who along with assistant driver D. Rajkumar decreased speed and applied emergency brakes on sighting the damaged track and the crater formed by the blast.

The reward was announced for alertness, sense of responsibility and devotion to duty.
