Review of progress under way in Rajini Makkal Mandram

Weeks after appointing more than 7,000 office-bearers to the Rajini Makkal Mandram, actor Rajinikanth is said to have called for a review of the work done thus far by the office-bearers.

Sources in the organisation said Mr. Rajinikanth, who would soon be going on a short trip to the United States, had urged the office-bearers to set up at least 65,000 booth-level units throughout Tamil Nadu. District secretaries and other office-bearers were asked to talk about the progress they had made, in the presence of other members.

According to an office-bearer, the exercise was meant to instil a sense of competitiveness among various district office-bearers and encourage them to do more.

The exercise was carried out by Rajini Makkal Mandram State secretary Raju Mahalingam and administrator V.M. Sudhakar in Chennai, Namakkal and Tiruchi.

‘No delay’

Sources also denied that the protests over the Cauvery water sharing issue had led to a delay in the launch of the actor’s political party.

“It is not true. We are on track. We never said that we will have a launch in May. We are currently having a review meeting and hope to reach the target set by our leader. Only our leader will take a decision on when the party will be launched,” said a source close to the actor.

Recently, the Rajini Makkal Mandram re-launched its mobile application, which provides information on the latest developments in the organisation and features news about Mr. Rajinikanth’s statements to the press. Office-bearers claimed there were plans to expand its scope such that its reach was similar to that of television channels, newspapers and other media outlets owned by popular political parties in Tamil Nadu.
