The Tamil Nadu Government on Wednesday appointed retired High Court Judge K. Sampath to enquire into the violence in which seven persons were killed at Paramakudi on Sunday.

The inquiry commission would go into the causes and circumstances leading to the opening of fire, resulting in death and injuries during the violence, a government statement said.

According to the terms of reference, the Commission would also probe whether appropriate force was used as warranted by the circumstances and whether all formalities were followed before resorting to firing.

The Commission is expected to complete the inquiry and submit the report to the State Government in two months, it added.

The appointing of the enquiry commission comes in the wake of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s announcement in the assembly that the government would form an inquiry commission under a retired High Court judge to probe the incident.
