Residents protest deletion of names from rolls

April 14, 2011 02:22 am | Updated 12:48 pm IST - CUDDALORE:

The en masse deletion of about 400 Thevanampattinam fishermen and their families from the electoral rolls sparked huge disappointment among them and prompted them to stage an agitation at a polling station in the coastal area on Wednesday morning. All of them, carrying EPICs, went to the polling station but were shocked when their names were not found in the electoral rolls.

Polling officials at the station in the government arts college building directed them to a nearby booth located in a school, where they were refused permission to vote once again as their names did not figure in the rolls.
