Protest against laying ONGC pipeline

Work on laying gas pipeline by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation at Srinivasapuram near here was suspended on Saturday following protest by a group of residents.

The residents, who assembled in good strength, prevented the operation of the earthmover used for digging the earth for laying the pipeline. They claimed that the pipeline had been a source of pollution. The agitators demanded that the Cauvery delta be declared protected agriculture zone.

Police officials from the taluk office rushed to the spot and held talks with the residents. The work has since been suspended.
