The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Crime Branch-CID Police, investigating into the series of murders across Tamil Nadu by Islamic terror suspects, arrested Mohamed Ismail alias Panna Ismail in connection with Paramakudi BJP leader Murugan murder case on Monday. The SIT could not arrest Panna Ismail, along with ‘Police’ Fakruddin and Bilal Malik, in October last as he was undergoing treatment for the bullet injury he had suffered when police raided their hideout at Puttur.

The investigating agency produced Panna Ismail before the Judicial Magistrate court here amid tight security. Judicial Magistrate N.Velusamy, after informing the accused about his arrest, remanded him in judicial custody till February 7.

On a petition filed by the prosecution, the Magistrate ordered that the accused, brought from the Vellore central prison, be lodged in Madurai central prison for the purpose of identification parade. The Magistrate also ordered that ‘Police’ Fakruddin and Bilal Malik, presently lodged at Vellore central prison, be shifted to Madurai central prison temporarily for the same purpose.
