Reject Kerala offer for talks on dam issue: Ramadoss

July 01, 2011 01:19 am | Updated 01:19 am IST - CHENNAI:

PMK leader S. Ramadoss on Thursday urged the government to reject Kerala's offer to hold talks on Mullaperiyar dam issue.

In a statement here, Dr. Ramadoss said the Kerala government had made the offer knowing fully well that the outcome of the Supreme Court on the issue was likely to be in favour of Tamil Nadu.

“The Supreme Court has already declared that the dam is strong enough to hold 142 ft water and if Tamil Nadu agrees for talks it will put the State in a disadvantageous position. This will deprive five districts in the State of water,” Dr. Ramadoss added.

MDMK general secretary Vaiko said that the Mullaperiyar dam was stronger than any other dams in Kerala and if the Kerala government attempted to construct a new dam, his party would block all roads leading to Kerala.

“Tamil Nadu should adequately warn Kerala and the Centre should intervene to resolve the issue in the interest of national integrity.”
