March 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

A Sri Lankan refugee from Tirunelveli district, who was enlarged on bail in Sri Lanka recently after being jailed for a while for illegal entry, was nabbed by the police on reaching Rameswaram.

Police sources said K. Kanthan (23) of Kalaignar Colony under Gangaikondan police station limits near here paid money to an agent for going to Australia in a boat illegally. When he boarded the boat in May 2013, the mechanised vessel entered the waters of Sri Lanka by mistake, and was impounded by the Lankan navy. After being lodged in a prison in Sri Lanka for illegally entering the country, Kanhe was released on bail.

When he returned to Rameswaram on Monday in a boat, he was detained by the ‘Q’ Branch police personnel and questioned. He was handed over to Gangaikondan police on Tuesday.
