‘Reconsider suspension of six DMDK MLAs’

April 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has appealed to the Speaker to reconsider the suspension of six Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) MLAs for 10 days in the next session of the Assembly.

Addressing reporters here on Wednesday, CPI (M)’s State secretary G. Ramakrishnan said that the punishment was too harsh.

Following the proceedings of the Privileges Committee, the House adopted a resolution suspending the MLAs.

In spite of appeals by the Opposition parties, the Assembly went ahead with the suspension, which should be reconsidered, he stressed.

Land Bill

He wanted the AIADMK to refrain from supporting the Land Acquisition Bill, which, he said, was “anti-farmer,” in the Rajya Sabha.

Though 100 people had been killed in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts in the last 10 months, the government claimed in the Assembly that the law and order situation was good, which was ridiculous, the CPI (M) leader added.
