Realtor robbed by woman at star hotel

April 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

A 41-year-old Tamil Nadu-based realtor was duped and robbed of his belongings by a young woman, whom the police suspect is employed by an escort agency from Hyderabad.

The victim, Vasanth Raj, had checked into a five-star hotel on Old Airport Road on April 23, and met the woman in his room the same day. According to the police, she suggested they have some alcohol and was quite insistent on a particular brand.

Mr. Raj had to leave the hotel to buy the brand she wanted. When he returned to the suite with the drink, he found the room empty: neither the woman was there nor some of his valuable belongings. Taking advantage of the situation, the woman had made off with his gold chain, cash and iPad, said a senior police officer.

On realising that he had been duped, Mr. Raj called his friend Ritvikh Shetty, a trade union leader from Chamarajanagar, who had arranged for his stay in Bengaluru. The complaint was filed by Mr. Shetty only on April 25.

A search has now been launched to trace the woman, who is said to be on the run.

A case of cheating has been filed against her.

Hunt for complainant

The police have also trained their sights on Mr. Shetty. “We have reason to believe that he helped arrange for the escort from Hyderabad,” said the police.

Initially, Mr. Shetty had lied to the police, claiming that Mr. Raj was a former Minister from Tamil Nadu. During investigation, however, the police found out that he was a realtor.

Efforts are on to track him down, a senior police officer said.
