Encroachment-free platform

Salem Corporation recently laid a footpath on Junction main road and Khader Khan Road in Salem Junction area. But this pavement in many places has been occupied the people running the shops for keeping dustbins, waste baskets, parking vehicles, leaving little space for pedestrians. I request the corporation authorities to warn the local shop keepers against encroaching into the platform meant for pedestrians.

Traffic choked

Recently, I attended an election meeting addressed by a political party top leader near Tiruchengode bus stand.

The meeting was held in the evening hours and the leader was a little late. Though the leader addressed the meeting from his van, the flow traffic on the busy roads leading to Tiruchengode bus stand was chocked for more than an hour. The political parties get permission for the campaign meetings much in advance. As such police could divert the traffic through alternative routes, instead of forcing the vehicles to wait for a long time.

Transportation of people on open trucks

Even though there is a ban on transporting people in open lorries, fish carts, almost all the political parties are taking the people for the election meetings attended by the leaders in only the lorries and other open vehicles in total violation. The police unfortunately remain a silent spectator. The Election Commission should slap a ban on transporting people for public meetings in open lorries.

Speed breaker

a threat

The speed breaker opposite the ARRS Multiplex theatre complex on the new bus stand road in Meyyanur has damaged.

This is posing much hardship to the vehicle users, particularly the two-wheeler riders. I request the authorities to either properly set up the speed breaker and remove it once for all.

Stray dogs menace

The stray dogs roam freely at Weavers Colony, Appavu Nagar, Kumarasamipettai, and Nedumaran Nagar in Dharmapuri municipal limits, posing threat to the local people. These stray dogs chase the people riding two-wheelers particularly in the night hours. I request the Dharmapuri municipality to put an end to stray dog menace.

No bus shelter

A large number of people proceeding to new bus stand wait at the Tiruvakavundanur bus stop in Salem city. But there is no bus shelter here as such they have to wait under the hot sun. With mercury soaring high in Salem city for the past few weeks, the commuters have to take shelters under the nearby trees and run to board the buses. This is causing much hardship to all. I request the corporation to construct a bus helter here.

Plea for flyover

The vehicles proceeding to Salem from Tiruchengode have to enter the Coimbatore – Salem national highway near the Vinayaka Mission University. This road is a very busy road round the clock and the vehicles plying to Salem have to carefully negotiate this point. The NHAI authorities should take initiative for the construction of a fly-over and also service road at this point.

Tourists being fleeced

Salem is a major city in Tamil Nadu and a large number of tourists and devotees arrive from different parts of the Southern States to visit tourist spots and temples. The autorickshaw and taxis parked at Salem Railway Junction, Salem Town Station, New Bus stand demand exorbitant fare from the tourists and devotees. Despite repeated requests no action is taken by the police and transport department officials to check the fleecing innocent people. The authorities should come forward to introduce pre-paid auto and pre-paid taxi system in all important points in Salem city.

Summer coaching programmes

The Salem district unit of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu is organising special summer swimming coaching programme for the boys. It should have a separate schedule for girls and this will immensely benefit the girls in learning swimming.

Voter awareness programmes

Not a single day passes without government departments and one organisation or the other organising voter awareness campaigns to motivate the voters.

A majority of these campaigns are held only in the city limits. I request the authorities to have such programmes in the rural areas.
