The Science and Technology Department’s Planetarium in Kurinji Nagar, Puducherry is a boon for students to learn more about space, atmosphere, galaxy and related matters, and be motivated to study space sciences, avionics, astrophysics and astronomy for their higher education. Close to the Planetarium is another important place, the National Archives of India regional centre in Jeevanandapuram.
This is a rich treasure on the history, culture, civilisation and social history of Puducherry in the form of documents and films. Students interested in social sciences can visit the centre on the same day without spending on additional expenses. Therefore, I would request the authorities concerned to display signboards about these two places at the entry of the Airport Road for the convenience of tourists, students, teachers and parents to encourage educational tourism in Puducherry.

Residents want a cleaner Cuddalore
Cuddalore District is known for its backwardness in terms of industrialisation and development, not to speak of its civic woes which are burgeoning. The underground drainage scheme inaugurated four years ago with fanfare remains unfinished. The municipal administration had two chairmen elected consecutively thanks to the infighting in the ruling party. The change of heads saw no improvements in civic amenities.
Marriage halls located on thoroughfares litter the streets and it goes unheeded. Cuddalore is headquarters of the district only in a pejorative sense.
The District administration is in a state of limbo.
Now that it has come under the Centre’s Smart Cities list, the residents look forward to a healthier living.

Turn bridge into bridge-cum-check dam
Recently, the Tamil Nadu Government sanctioned a bridge project near Manalurpettai across the River Pennaiyar.
I request the government to modify it as a bridge-cum-check dam project so that water will be stored, which will improve the water table potential for a radius of 1km.
This will benefit the farmers and well as drinking water needs of the public. Combining the work will reduce the cost as well, instead of executing the work separately later.
The irrigation channels on either side of the river will benefit to a great extent.
A competent consultant may be appointed to investigate, design and execute the above project by adopting the latest technology.
