Separate cycle lanes required

While there is no change in the length of roads maintained by the PWD and the Local Administration Department, Puducherry, the number of motor vehicles in use increases every year. As per statistics in 2012-13, there were 6.5 lakhs two wheelers, 9300 buses and 65000 cars plying on roads. The Government should consider providing a separate cycle lane in the East Coast corridor. This would not only help to ease vehicular traffic but helps to burn calories and save fuel.

Big day for science enthusiasts

It is heartening to know that a Science Centre and Planetarium is getting inaugurated today. Right since India gained independence, developing a scientific temper has been one of the cornerstones of our policies. However, our youth are lured by IT, communications and applied areas. Thus pure sciences have taken a back seat. The Science Centre and the Planetarium fills a critical void in the educational landscape of Puducherry and shall surely prove to be a boon to the inquisitive minds.Ashok Bhatia,

Roof needed for two-wheeler parking lot

The Kallakurichi bus stand is situated in the centre of the town. Every day, hundreds of two wheelers are parked at the parking lot in the bus stand. With no roof at the parking lot, the vehicles are exposed to rain and shine. It is requested that the municipality authorities consider constructing a roof here to benefit commuters.M.R.
