Set up drinking water stations

With summer setting in, I suggest the municipal authorities to consider setting up drinking water stations or stands. They can be set up at important junctions like the Indira Gandhi signal, the Rajiv Gandhi signal and other places.

Need for additional compartment

This is with reference to the need of an additional compartment in the Tiruchendur Express train. Being the only train connecting Chennai through the Mayiladathurai route to the southern districts, there is a great demand for seats on this train. Even Tatkal bookings are difficult. , A few additional compartments will be helpful to people of middle and low-income. Moreover, being a train connecting pilgrimage places, It will also be of great help to senior citizens and employees availing the LTC scheme. The Southern Railways will be able to generate more revenue as students of the Annamalai University and patients of Jipmer use this train.

Do not shift bus stand

This is with reference to a reader’s mail published last week suggesting that the New Bus Stand in Puducherry be shifted. While I agree that the traffic congestion is getting worse by the day, especially at the Nellithope junction, Indira Gandhi signal and the Rajiv Gandhi signal, the suggestion that the bus stand be shifted further away will not reduce the public’s woes. We know how rickshaw fares are exorbitantly high in Puducherry. Already, commuters have to pay through their nose for travelling to or from the bus stand. Rather, the solution to traffic congestion can be found in flyovers, better traffic management and traffic discipline. Hence shifting the bus stand is not a good idea.
