Power cut while watching R- Day parade
Every once in a while, power cuts occur in the area we live in. However, when these disrupt an important event like the Republic Day parade being viewed by us on TV, the contempt and anguish one feels is beyond words. For the past few years, TNEB has managed to disrupt power right in the midst of the telecast of the parade, thereby depriving us the right to witness an important event of national importance. Through your esteemed publication, I wish to humbly request the authorities concerned to ensure that this time round, citizens in our area are not deprived of the joy of witnessing the parade uninterrupted.

No observance of
road safety
Puducherry recently celebrated Road Safety Week, but I have noticed reckless, arrogant and untrained drivers in my neighbourhood and the town.
Added to this, when people observe a function in Puducherry, the host expects the streets also to join the celebrations. They put up temporary structures compromising the safety of others.
Even an ambulance will find it difficulty to make its way through such structures. Is permission taken to put these up, and if so why is it given?

Train to Rameswaram
I refer to the announcement of D.P. Pandey, Member (Traffic), Indian Railway about the possibility of running additional trains to Rameswaram from other parts of the country, ‘Railways to consider more services to Rameswaram’ ( The Hindu , November 18). Since both Puducherry and Rameswaram are tourist destinations, it would be ideal to link these places by a daily train via the main line.
It will also enable the people of Puducherry to have direct access to some holy places on the way, like Chidambaram, Thanjavur, Tiruchi and Vaitheeswaran Koil.
Hence I appeal to R. Radhakrishnan, MP from Puducherry to seize this opportunity.
