Krishnagiri municipality has intensified the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) campaign here by collecting signed affidavits of sorts from adults through their children.
The Municipality has printed over 6,000 sworn declaration forms for signatures from voters, collected through their children. The initiative is to cover over 20,000 voters, on the assumption that each form would fetch four voters from each house, says G. Kannan, Municipal Commissioner. The forms bearing an oath-cum-declaration that has been distributed to students across schools and returned with signatures from adults swearing to cast their vote faithfully without taking a price for their vote. The form extracting a signed oath is accompanied by name and EPIC of the voter.
The Municipality has also come out with rubber stamps etched with the message “May 16, Thavaramal Vaakalippom, Maravaamal Vaakalippom ,” (Let’s vote without fail, let’s vote without forgetting) as part of the campaign.
The rubber stamps have been distributed to 30 big stores in the town here with an appeal to affix the stamp on every bill issued. Similarly, the rubber stamps have been distributed to courier service centres and the post office here. “From Wednesday, they will affix the seal on packages and posts, spreading the message of voting and the significance of May 16,” Commissioner Kannan told The Hindu .
