Six police check-posts and four vehicle inspection centres will be set up in Kumuli to ensure regular transport service to pilgrims visiting Kannagi Temple on the Western Ghats to take part in ‘Chitra Pournami’ festival on April 22, according to Collector N. Venkatachalam.
Elaborate
arrangements
Addressing a meeting of officials and festival organisers here on Saturday, he said that elaborate arrangements would be made for the convenience of pilgrims.
Too many check-posts would reduce waiting time for jeep operators to obtain tokens to transport pilgrims to the temple from Kumuli. Permission to operate trips would be granted quickly.
Fitness of vehicles would be check at four centres at Kumuli, he added.
The hill road would be rehabilitated and basic amenities provided on the way and on the temple campus.
The Collector also banned use of high-decibel speakers, generators, crackers and other explosive materials, idol processions, distribution of advertisement pamphlets, carrying of water in plastic bottles and liquor.
Two-wheelers would not be allowed to enter the forests. Photography and videography were also prohibited within the reserve forests, he added.
