Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday inaugurated the three-day ‘Chithirai Kalai Vizha' at the Gandhi Thidal.

The festival, organised by the Department of Art and Culture, would see a number of performances of traditional art forms on the Beach Road near the Gandhi statue. Artists from across the Union Territory and the neighbouring States would participate in the festival to entertain the tourists who visit the coastal town over the weekend.

Acknowledging the need for more funds to the department to conduct cultural activities throughout the year, an issue raised by Member of Legislative Assembly Lakshminarayanan during the inauguration, Mr. Rangasamy said that the government would actively promote artists who were practicing traditional art forms in the Union Territory.
