Rameswaram fishermen strike from July 22

July 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:04 am IST - RAMESWARAM:

As Sri Lankan Navy continued to arrest Tamil Nadu fishermen and there was no sign of securing the release of the 77 fishermen jailed in the island nation, Rameswaram fishermen have decided to launch an indefinite strike from July 22 and go on fast from July 28.

Leaders of 11 mechanised fishermen associations met here on Tuesday and adopted resolutions to launch the strike, stage a demonstration and observe fast to protest against the arrest and demand release of the arrested fishermen and their boats. Fishermen leader P. Sesu Raja said the fishermen and family members of those arrested would launch the fast on July 28. – Special Correspondent
