Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss on Sunday welcomed the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam resolution disapproving the Supreme Court’s decision to constitute a five-member Empowered Committee to consider issues relating to the Mullaperiyar dam issue.

In a press release on Sunday, he said that PMK would accept the DMK’s stand as one of the ways of solving the issue. But, it was also necessary to think whether the resolution adopted at the DMK’s general council meeting on Saturday would bring in the desired result.

Apart from Mullaperiyar dam issue, Kerala had refused to co-operate with Tamil Nadu in other issues related to river water sharing and had acted against the interests of the Tamil Nadu. Therefore, it was the duty of the Central government to resolve the problem without causing bitterness among States, he said.

However, he expressed doubt whether the Congress party and the Central government would protect Tamil Nadu’s interests through talks or other means.

He called upon the different parties in the State to unite and take steps to protect Tamil Nadu’s interests.
