Stirring up another textbook controversy, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss on Sunday asked the State to delete a portion immediately in the Standard X social science book, in which Hindi is described as the national language. The textbook was prepared as part of the Samacheer Kalvi syllabus. The lesson, ‘Unity in Diversity,' (page 253) states Hindi as the national language. Terming it a grave blunder, the PMK founder called for criminal action against those involved in preparing the book.
In a statement, he said no language was declared national language and Hindi was only an official language.

With his political fortunes declining pathetically, Ramadoss now have got hold of this issue to show people he is still around.
The cartoon does not in anyway belittle Tamils. I wish nature provided a "mute" button that we could use on these politicians.
what has been said in this matter may be correct, but what is pathetic is that everybody has closed their eyes towards the thousands of errors found in those books. i repeat, thousands of errors. e.g. manusmriti is the name of a public tank / kamarajar was not born in virudunagar / sanga literatures were written in the period of kalabara. this is a very serious issue because the errors in the textbooks will directly tell upon the study performance of students. will anybody do something?
Hindi is an official language of India as per Article 343 of the Constitution of India. The constitution of India (Article 343, Part XVII, Official Language) is to be amended with special majority in the parliament. It need 2/3 of the parliament members present and voting. This is upheld by the Recent High Court Verdict announced on 2012.
Hence, Hindi is not the national language of India like National Flag, National Tree,........... India is an union of states. Only 8 states in India, Hindi is the mother tongue, they are UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, MP, Uttarakhnd, CG, HP and Jharkhand. National language status needs consensus from other states as well.
