Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss was formally arrested on Tuesday in a case booked against him in September 2012 by the Kudankulam police in Tirunelveli district.
The charge against Dr. Ramadoss, presently lodged in the Tiruchi Central Prison, is that he had flouted prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure around the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project and participated in a protest at Idinthakarai village in Tirunelveli district near the plant seeking its closure.
The case was booked on September 3 under various IPC sections, including 143 (unlawful assembly) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant). Mr. Ramadoss has been named as accused – 4 in the case.
Prison and police sources said Mr. Ramadoss was formally arrested on Tuesday evening in the Central Prison after the Inspector of Kudankulam police station came with a warrant.
The sources said Judicial Magistrate – II of Tiruchi P. Rajaram came to the Central Prison around 4.05 p.m. and remanded Mr. Ramadoss in the Kudankulam case till May 13.
The PMK founder, arrested at Villupuram on April 30 while leading a demonstration in defiance of prohibitory orders, has already been remanded in two separate cases booked against him by the Mamallapuram police and one by the Vilakuthoon police in Madurai district.
The case booked by the Vilakuthoon police pertains to an attack on actor Rajinikanth’s fans by the PMK leader’s security guards in Madurai in 2004.
