Rally to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held here on Monday. The day is observed on June 26 every year.

Excise, Police and Education departments and Indian Red Cross Society jointly organised the rally which began from the taluk Office. District Collector A.Gnanasekaran flagged off the rally and distributed pamphlets to create awareness on drug abuse.

Speaking at the event Mr.Gnanasekaran said, “United Nation’s theme for 2016 for the day is ‘Listen First’.

This is to emphasise the necessity to listen to youth and children to safeguard them from drug abuse. "Drug abuse affects health, individual’s development and disrupts social harmony. We need to spread awareness in this regard,” he said.

Students especially those from NCC and NSS, number of officials including the District Revenue Officer S.Palani took part in the rally.

It around arterial roads and streets before culminating in front of the Thirumanjana Gopuram of Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple.
