Major parties take out rallies, hold roadside meetings in Thanjavur
Political parties took out rallies and organised roadside meetings in various parts of Thanjavur and other parts of the district as curtains came down on electioneering for April 24 elections.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam wound up its campaign with a meeting at Thanjavur junction. R. Vaithilingam, Housing and Urban Development Minister, K. Parasuraman, and leaders of other fraternal parties and organisations, spoke.
S.S. Palani Manickam, former Union Minister and district secretary of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, led a rally of the DMK party from East Gate in the evening. T.R. Baalu, party candidate, K. Veeramani, leader of Dravidar Kazhagam, L. Ganesan, senior leader, and Tiruchi N. Siva, Rajya Sabha member, urged people to support the party.
The Congress workers took out a two-wheeler rally from Tholkappiar Square and it culminated at Sivaganga Garden. T. Krishnasamy Vandayar, candidate, and S. P. Antonysamy, district president participated in the rally.
P. Nedumaran, president of the Tamizhar Desiya Iyakkam, addressed an election meeting in support of S. Tamil Selvi, the CPI (M) candidate near the East Gate. K. Neelamegam and R. Tirugnanam, district secretaries of CPI (M) and CPI respectively, spoke.
The BJP cadre took out a rally from Pattukottai to Tambikottai Maravakkadu, in which Muruganandam, party candidate, participated.
