A special court here on Tuesday dismissed a petition of A.G. Perarivalan, death row convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, seeking for “effective monitoring” of the Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Authority, a wing of the CBI which is probing the larger conspiracy angle behind the killing.
The court also rejected another plea directing the CBI to investigate the ignored areas in the case. Judge N. Dhandapani pronounced a brief order dismissing Perarivalan’s petition.
Perarivalan was sentenced to death on charges of criminal conspiracy and for providing batteries to detonate the bomb used by the suicide bomber. He is lodged in Central Prison, Vellore.
In his petition, Perarivalan claimed he would be affected by the outcome of the pending investigation. He alleged that the MDMA was submitting documents and reports in sealed covers, the contents of which were unknown, and that investigation was not being done in a proper manner. He said a proper investigation would throw more light on the case.
