Rajinikanth's next film with Pa. Ranjith is Kaala: Karikalan

The title of actor Rajinikanth’s next movie directed by Pa. Ranjith was revealed as Kaala , on Thursday. The movie has the tagline ‘ Karikaalan .’

Actor and producer Dhanush, who is bankrolling the project under his banner Wunderbar Films, revealed the title in the morning and released the first-look poster of the movie in the evening, bringing in much cheer to fans of the actor who have been eagerly waiting to get a glimpse into the project.

Set in Mumbai

One of the posters shows the actor sitting on a jeep with snapshots of Mumbai in the background. The posters of the movie with the title in Hindi and Telugu were also released. While Santhosh Narayanan will be scoring the music for the movie, Murali G will handle cinematography. Both worked on Pa. Ranjith’s previous film with the superstar, Kabali, which traced the story of a gangster in Malaysia.

Kaala : Karikaalan trended on various social media sites all through the day as fans took to sharing the title and the first-look posters of the film.

Though there is still no official announcement about the rest of the cast, Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi reportedly will star opposite Rajinikanth . Actor Anjali Patil, who received a National Award special mention for the Telugu Movie Naa Bangaru Talli in 2013, tweeted that she was a part of the project.

While the makers have kept the story of Kaala: Karikaalan under wraps, speculations had run rife that the movie was based on the life of Haji Masthan.

Following Kabali , Rajini had gone on to shoot for director Shankar’s magnum opus2.0 , a sequel to Endhiran . While 2.0 was originally scheduled to release for Deepavali this year, the makers have postponed it to next year stating that they wanted to work more on the extensive visual effects that the project had.
