Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in insolated areas of south Tamil Nadu and southern Kerala in the next 24 hours owing to a depression in the south-west Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.

An IMD bulletin released at 2.00 p.m. said the trough lay centered close to Ratnapura in Sri Lanka and is likely to move west-north-westwards, emerge into the Comorin area and intensify further into a deep depression in the next 24 hours.

The Met department has also predicted heavy rains in most places of the Lakshadweep Islands from December 1.

Sea conditions would be rough to very rough along and off south Tamil Nadu and southern Kerala in the next 48 hours and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, it said.
