The ‘rainbow alliance’ formed by the BJP in Tamil Nadu comprising the parties led by Vijayakant, S. Ramadoss, Vaiko, A.C. Shanmugam, T.R. Pachamuthu and Easwaran would change the politics in Tamil Nadu, BJP leader L.K. Advani said here on Monday.

Canvassing for Pudhiya Needhi Katchi candidate A.C. Shanmugam, who is contesting on the BJP’s ‘lotus’ symbol in Vellore, Mr. Advani said that till now it was felt that an electoral contest in Tamil Nadu was always between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

“But, this combination of parties, known as the rainbow front, has made the earlier bipolar front less relevant. The speciality of the rainbow alliance is that it encompasses all sections of people, and all castes are represented in the alliance. The biggest change in politics in Tamil Nadu now is that the fight is not just between the AIADMK and the DMK. This rainbow alliance led by the BJP will be the principal front in Tamil Nadu, ” he said.

Batting for the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, Mr. Advani said Mr. Modi had performed exceedingly well in Gujarat.

Pointing out that the first and foremost duty of any government would be to ensure that poverty and illiteracy were removed, Mr. Advani said that whenever Mr. Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat or Shivraj Singh Chouhan became the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, they decided to see that there was no village without electricity, there was no village without power for farmers, and there was no village without schools for girls.

“A remarkable change is going to come in June, when you will find that the Congress led by Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh will be out of the race, and a new government of the National Democratic Alliance will be formed with Mr. Modi as Prime Minister,” the BJP veteran said.
