The Northeast monsoon is expected to bring in more rains and help to increase water level in the reservoirs and tanks.

There are three reservoirs in the district – Mordhana, Rajathoppu and the Andiappanur Odai. Apart from this, there are 519 Public Works Department (PWD) tanks across the district.

The current storage level at the Mordhana dam in Gudiyatham is 64.881 mcft (million cubic feet) against its full capacity of 261.36 mcft. The total depth of the reservoir is 37.72 feet and inflow 51 cusecs, according to officials.

The Rajathoppu reservoir has 1.4 mcft of water currently. It has a capacity of 20.52 mcft. The Andiappanur Odai near Tirupattur, which has a capacity of 112.20 mcft, has 12.41 mcft of water.

Officials said the recent rains were not sufficient to improve inflow to the dams. Water from these reservoirs is also being used for irrigation purposes.

While water level in the Mordhana reservoir can increase with more rain in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, rains in the Yelagiri Hills will improve the inflow to the Andiappanur Odai, the officials said. Water level is 50 per cent in eight tanks and 25 per cent in 25 tanks of the district.
