KODAIKANAL

Sharp showers that rocked Kodaikanal and nearby villages for more than one and a half hours paralysed routine life on Monday. However, residents in the town were happy as the rain would mitigate drinking water crisis to a large extent.

Horticulturists too were happy over the intermittent showers in the last one week as it would protect standing crops on upper and lower Kodaikanal hills.

Water flooded low-lying areas in the town. The flow in all forest streams was good. Water was gushing in Silver Falls since early morning. A sizeable quantum of water was flowing into the lake owing to the good rain in the catchments. Water level raised marginally in two reservoirs, the prime drinking water sources of Kodaikanal.

Water flowing in the streams and Silver Falls would help improve storage in major dams in Palani block.

Batlagundu and nearby areas experienced minor showers. The sky was overcast in Dindigul and the surrounding areas.
