Sankarankovil that did not receive significant rainfall during the last northeast monsoon was blessed with a sudden downpour on Friday evening bringing cheer to the residents.

The sudden rain that started with gale and thunder around 4.15 p.m. delighted the residents till 5.30 p.m.

Water stagnated on all roads in the town and the gusty wind uprooted the flex boards tied in various parts of Sanakrankovil.

The lightning injured S. Muththammal (65) of nearby Senthatti when she was returning home from her field in the evening and was admitted to the Government Hospital at Sankarankovil.
