Krishnagiri – Puducherry National Highway- 66 has become a nightmare for motorists and heavy vehicle users. The continuous rain has also damaged the road between Krishnagiri and Chengam.
In many places the very existence of road itself is in doubt. Potholes of varying sizes have become a general feature on many stretches.
Worst affected
The worst affected were regular motorists and many complaint of becoming tired once they travel between Krishnagiri and Tiruvannamalai.
The 110-km stretch from Krishnagiri to Thiruvanamalai normally takes two-and-a-half hours for a motorist. Due heavy rain, the journey time takes nearly four hours. Many bus drivers who operate two trips from Bangalore to Thiruvanamalai point out that they could not driver on this battered road more than one trip.
Many drivers also complaint of accidents occurring on the stretch during rainy season.
When contacted officials of the State Transport Corporations (Salem and Villupuram Divisions) told The Hindu that they have lodged a complaint to the Collector V. Arun Roy.
They were informed by the officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) that Rs. 1.5 crore has been sanctioned for repairing the road and the work would commence soon.

Many areas in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri received moderate rain on Wednesday. The rainfall registered in Dharmapuri in mm were: Marandaalli 4. In Krishnagiri district in mm: Barur 31, Pochampalli 16.40, Benugondapuram 12.20, Nedungal 6.20 and Thaly 3.
