Railway Week celebrated

Distribution of cash awards and merit certificates to the outstanding officers and employees, and rolling shields to best maintained railway stations marked the 60th Railway Week celebrations organised by the Salem Railway Division here on Friday.

V. Thavamani Pandi, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Salem Division, was the chief guest and gave away merit certificates and cash awards to 234 officers and employees of the Division.

Fourteen rolling shields were presented to various branches.

This year, Tirupur Junction has bagged the award for the best maintained major railway station and Coonoor was adjudged as the best maintained minor railway station.

Mr. Pandi said that the Salem Division has performed excellently well in all departments. He pointed out that Division’s earnings for the current year stood at Rs. 611 crore with an increase of 12 per cent over the last year’s earnings.

The punctuality of trains has been maintained at 93 per cent as in last year.

On the safety front, the ADRM said that in the current year, 13 unmanned level crossings have been closed.

On the employees’ welfare front, he said that the Salem Division Personnel Branch has prepared a selection calendar to plan for the manpower requirements well in advance.

He further said that railway schools in Erode and Podanur have got affiliation for CBSE. G. Janarthanan, Divisional Personnel Officer, also spoke.
