Railway police hand over child to father

April 16, 2011 12:14 am | Updated 12:14 am IST - Coimbatore:

The male child that was born moments before his mother was run over by a train 20 days ago in the city was on Wednesday handed over to his father. Railway Police Inspector M. Lawrence handed over the child to C. Gopal (36), a labourer, in the presence of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital Resident Medical Officer P. Sivaprakasam and Hospital Supervisor Govindarajan.

A written consent was obtained from Gopal to take care of the child. It may be recalled Gopal's wife Kuppammal (32) was run over by a train while she was walking on the track near her house at Poonthottam on March 25. Seconds before she was hit by the train, she delivered the child.
