The quality of time spent in learning is important rather than quantity, S. Divya Darshini, IAS topper, said here on Thursday.

In an interaction with a large number of civil services aspirants and students at G.D. Auditorium, she said that her determination to serve the society had made her take the civil services examinations and succeed. “Lessons learnt from mistakes committed during my first preliminary examination gave me the confidence to do well in the second attempt,” added Ms. Divya.

She said that the basic concepts learnt in schools should never be forgotten, as the civil services examination was largely based on it.

She added that serving the society that we belonged to was a great opportunity and called upon the civil services aspirants to grab it by enriching their knowledge by effectively using the internet.

She reminded the aspirants that the members of the interview board would test the patience of the candidates and advised them to prepare and face the interview with confidence as it was the key to success not only in the civil services examination but also in all other areas.

“When you feel tired, think of your parents' sufferings, you will put in more efforts to achieve and make them happier,” she added.

City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu, in his special address, said that civil services was the only area wherein at a younger age one would get the responsibility to serve society and get recognition for the service rendered.

He added that more youths were preparing for all the competitive examinations and called upon them to develop their logical, analytical thinking and their personal qualities.
