December 22, 2013 01:56 am | Updated 01:56 am IST - Chennai:

A. Ramasamy, one of the two MLAs of Puthiya Tamizhagam, on Saturday met Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and sought her help to implement welfare schemes in his the Nilakottai constituency. His meeting has taken the political circles by surprise, as his leader, the other MLA, Dr. Krishnasamy, is highly critical of the ruling AIADMK, and of the Justice Sampath Commission that absolved the police of any excess in the Paramakudi riots.

Meanwhile, Thol. Thirumavalavan, leader of Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi, met DMK leader M. Karunanidhi and thanked him for snapping ties with the Congress and steering clear of the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls.
