Nearly 3.74 lakh children aged below five years will be immunised against polio during the intensified campaign in Vellore district. The first round of immunisation will be held on January 28, followed by the second round on March 11.

Collector S.A. Raman chaired a coordination meeting on Thursday for the intensified pulse polio immunisation campaign. According to a press release, nearly 3.74 lakh children will be covered through 2,371 booths across the district. Of this, 70 booths will be set up at bus terminals and railway stations and 14 booths at hill areas that have poor transport connectivity. Booths will be set up at the three toll plazas on the National Highways.

A total of 8,324 staff and 272 supervisors will be involved in the campaign. During the meeting, the participation of other departments was outlined. For instance, anganwadi workers under the Integrated Child Development Services will be involved in the campaign. On its part, the Education Department will keep schools where booths will be established open on the days of the campaign, and create awareness on the immunisation campaign during the morning assembly. Local bodies will ensure that children below 5 years and residing in newly added areas and district border received the drops. Health officials have urged parents to bring their children to receive the drops, the release said.
