Fishermen of Pudukottai district will stay away from the sea on Monday in the wake of the incessant rain for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday. The Fisheries Department has not issued tokens to the mechanised boat owners for fishing. A. Jambunathan, Assistant Director of Fisheries said that the Department would issue tokens for fishing only on Wednesday, if there was a let-up in the rain. About 550 mechanised boat-owners ventured into sea every alternate day in a week. The fishermen stayed away from sea on Saturday too, he said.
For the 24 hours ended at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Aranthangi registered a maximum of 21 mm of rainfall, followed by Mazhaiyur-19 mm; Nakudi-16.4 mm; Ayinkudi-15.2 mm; Perungalur-14 mm; Manalmelkudi, Karambakudi, and Keezhanilai-10 mm each; Adhanakottai and Kattumavadi-7 mm each; Karaiyur, Alankudi and Pudukottai-6 mm each.
