PT opposes screening of Komban

March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

The Puthiya Thamizhagam cadres have started agitating against the “unpleasant and provoking remarks” allegedly made against a particular community in the Karthi-starrer ‘Komban.’

“While mocking at a particular community, conversations in the movie glorify another community,” said A. Jayakumar, secretary of PT’s Tirunelveli West district, even as he, along with 53 party members, was arrested when they tried to stage a demonstration in front of Tenkasi Taluk Office on Monday without police permission.

They said the State government should ban the screening of this movie.

It may be pointed out that a youth from Adaikkalapuram near Tiruchendur, through his advocate, submitted his objections to the Central Board of Film Certification, saying that the “objectionable remarks” made against a community would trigger tension.

The cadres also organised similar protests at Tirunelveli Junction, Sankarankovil Town and Ambasamudram without police permission and 106 of them were arrested.

Those arrested were released in the evening.

Twenty-seven PT cadres were arrested here for agitating against the movie, which is yet to be screened in theatres. K. Karuppasamy, Tuticorin Central district secretary, led the agitation.
