Members belonging to Kongu Vellalar Peravai hoisted black flags on top of their houses on Tuesday in a protest against Tamil writer Puliyur Murugesan for his alleged derogatory remarks against the Kongu Vellalar community in his novel.

They demanded his arrest and urged the State government to ban his controversial novel, ‘Balachandran Enra Peyarum Enakkundu.’ Black flags were hoisted on houses in Karur, Kolanthanur, Ramanur, Karuppa Goundan Puthur and other villages. Meanwhile, Mr. Murugesan moved a petition in the district sessions court, seeking anticipatory bail. It is expected to be taken up for hearing on Wednesday.
