Protest against tree felling

July 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - SALEM:

The protest against felling of trees in the city continued on Friday as members of Salem Citizens Forum demanded that permission given to cut trees for road expansion on Yercaud road be cancelled.

Led by its convenor Piyush Sethia, the members gathered near the Collector’s camp office and expressed concern over felling of trees for road works.

They said that officials had earlier promised to save the trees, but now they allowed the contractor to proceed with cutting the trees.

Cancel permission

They demanded that the permission given to the contractor to cut the trees be cancelled and the existing trees saved.

Hence, cutting of trees was suspended temporarily. The members displayed banners that called for preserving the trees in the city.
