Protest against irregular supply of water

emanding that drinking water be supplied regularly, residents of Avvai Nagar in the city blocked the Salem — Bangalore National Highways here on Tuesday.

They said that there were 1,500 families in the area. Water was supplied to them once in 15 days for just one hour.

Despite repeated representations to the Councillor, no action has been taken. They said that the main pipeline for Mettur — Salem Dedicated Water Supply Scheme pass through the area.

The corporation should supply water from the pipeline.

“We have staged many protests demanding regular supply of water,” they added.

The police held talks with them. When M. Balu, Councillor, came there, the protesters started asking questions regarding non supply of water. The Councillor allegedly threatened them leading to wordy duel between him and the protesters.
