Members of the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Postgraduate Teachers Association staged a protest against the State government here on Monday, expressing dissent over a Government Order issued recently. The agitation was presided over by A. Valentine Elango, State private schools’ secretary of the association.
The G.O. was against the interest of teachers, who were assigned invigilation in exam halls, said A. Sargunaraj, State organising secretary of the association. The order prescribed suspension of any exam hall invigilator or supervisor for any malpractice if done by a student.
Invigilators should not be made scapegoats, he said. Hence, the government authorities should scrap the order. The members also sought hike in remuneration for invigilation duty.
As for exam invigilation duty scheduled in schools on the outskirts of Tuticorin, remuneration of Rs. 92 was fixed and Rs. 60 for local schools for a session. The remuneration should be increased to Rs. 200 a session for both categories.
They also demanded a hike in remuneration for valuation of answer scripts from Rs. 12 a paper to Rs. 25.
