A 33-year-old orderly P. Krishnan, who works in the residence of the District Munsif Court Judge, Nambi, attempted suicide by consuming poison on the court premises here on Monday.

The police said that Krishnan was interrogated by the Sivakasi Town police on Sunday based on an oral complaint of theft from the Judge. The Judge had complained to the Inspector of Police, Sivakasi Town, over phone that 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery were missing from his house on Saturday and he suspected Krishnan to be behind it, the Superintendent of Police, Najmul Hoda, said.

The Sivakasi Town Inspector of Police, Ramasubbu, had questioned him on Sunday. Though police sources said that Krishnan was in the police station throughout the day and was asked to come again on Monday morning, the Inspector said that he was questioned only for 20 minutes on Sunday and was not asked to turn up the next day.

Krishnan, who lives in Nathathupatti, came to the court premises on Monday morning, instead of going to the Judge’s residence, and consumed poison. He was rushed to the Government hospital here after which he was referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. His condition is said to be serious.

Police had not registered a case for attempted suicide till evening for want of complaint. No suicide note was recovered from Krishnan.
