The State government is planning to conduct an inquiry by an IAS officer from the School Education Department into the allegations made by a differently-abled person on the involvement of politicians in appointment of sweepers and watchmen, the Additional Advocate General K. Chellapandian on Friday submitted in the Madras High Court bench on Friday.
The petitioner, K. Ganesan, who was not selected for the post of watchman despite being eligible, had filed a petition challenging the appointments made in 2012 in the Usilampatti educational district. He had alleged in his petition that the officials had made several appointments on the basis of recommendation letters of Madurai North MLA A.K. Bose, Madurai South MLA R. Annadurai, Usilampatti MLA P.V. Kathiravan, Tirumangalam MLA M. Muthuramalingam, Co-operation Minister [Sellur K. Raju] and Madurai district secretary of AIADMK. The court had questioned the stance of the government in the issue earlier this week.
On Friday, Justice S. Nagamuthu recorded the submissions of the additional advocate general and adjourned the case to September 11 for further hearing. The petitioner’s counsel did not appear for the hearing because of the court boycott.
The judge also dispensed with the appearance of officials from the School Education Department including the former director of School Education Department, joint director of School Education Department and the district educational officers of Madurai, Usilampatti and Melur Educational Districts after recording their submissions that their former associates had dealt with the appointment process and that they were completely unaware of the appointment process.
Justice Nagamuthu instructed the additional advocate general to submit further details on the inquiry to be conducted during the next hearing.
