The Forest Department and the police are inquiring into an alleged robbery of over 200 red sanders that took place in the forest godown in Ranipet on Monday night.

According to the police, on Tuesday morning, the security guard at the forest godown in Ranipet was found inside a room in the godown with his hands and legs tied up. He allegedly informed the senior forest officials that he was tied up and red sanders were stolen from the godown.

However when the police visited the spot, they found no indications of a robbery. “No footprints were found at the scene of crime and the godown is situated near the police quarters. No vehicles can enter and exit the godown premises that easily,” said a police officer.

A senior officer from the Forest department said that it appears to be a robbery drama staged by a former ranger. “We are inquiring in to the issue and taking stock of red sanders that were stored in the godown earlier,” said a forest officer.
