Principal’s room built without approval, sealed

In a crackdown on unauthorised buildings, officials of the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, Vellore region, have sealed the principal’s room and office room situated inside an unauthorised building of Kennedy College of Education, Gudiyatham taluk.

In a press release issued, the officials said that the college situated at S.N. Palayam, Agaramcheri Road, Gudiyatham had not obtained the approval of the Regional Office of the Directorate for constructing the building. Following this, the Regional Deputy Director had issued notices to the college.

However, the Directorate did not receive any proposal from the educational institution seeking approval for the building. Hence, the Director of Town and Country Planning had ordered closure and sealing of the building . Following this, a team led by Deputy Director (in-charge), Directorate of Town and Country Planning, Vellore region, S. Chandrasekaran, sealed the principal’s room and office room.

The release added that several buildings were being constructed without obtaining approval in Vellore district. The Collector has said that such action on unauthorised buildings of educational institutions and commercial establishments will continue.

Local bodies have been given the powers to accord permission to residential buildings of 4,000 square feet (ground and first floor) and commercial buildings of 2,000 square feet area (ground and first floor).

Residential, commercial and educational institution buildings constructed within an area of 25,000 square feet and 15 m height are being authorised by the Deputy Director, Town and Country Planning, Vellore region. Buildings above 25,000 square feet area and 15 metres height come under the purview of Director of Town Planning, Chennai, the release added.

Earlier this week, the office room and principal’s room of a college at Kagithapattarai was closed and sealed as the building was built without permission.
