Malar, a women’s movement for creating awareness of educating women and their rights, has urged the government to prevent violence against women in Kanyakumari district.
At its 20-th district conference held here on Sunday, the movement passed a resolution to this effect. Other resolutions passed at the conference demanded permanent closure of Tasmac liquor outlets, replacement of old and damaged State Transport Corporation buses, permission for linguistic minorities to pursue education in their mother tongue and protection of rights of linguistic minorities as per the 1965 gazette notification.
Effective steps to protect natural resources and desilting of all the ponds and waterbodies in the district were also demanded through resolutions.
The conference was presided over by its district secretary Shelin Mary, and inaugurated by Indian Overseas Bank’s Senior Regional Manager C. Murugan. SBIOA general secretary T. Thomas Franco gave a special address.
Tamil Nadu Science Forum’s State Executive Committee member Dinakaran spoke on ‘Life is a science’.
NABARD District Development Manager Martin Prakasam, Lead District Manager Viswanathan among others participated.
