‘Power Star’ held for cheating

The Central Crime Branch of the city police on Friday arrested a Tamil comedy actor, S. Srinivasan, popularly known as ‘Power Star’ Srinivasan, on charges of cheating.

The actor is suspected to be involved in many cases of cheating and the city police have now registered six cases against him.

According to the police, Srinivasan had promised one P.S. Ranganathan of Andhra Pradesh that he would help him get a loan of Rs. 20 crore from a bank. The suspect had demanded and received Rs. 50 lakh from Ranganathan as commission.

But Srinivasan failed to get the the loan.

After repeated requests, Ranganathan confronted Srinivasan and demanded he return the money Ranganathan had given him. Ranganathan then lodged a complaint in this regard at the office of the Commissioner of Police in Egmore.

A CCB team probed the matter and arrested Srinivasan at Saligramam early on Friday. He was produced in a city court and remanded to custody, sources said.
